Do YOU feel in control?

This probably won't surprise you one bit when I tell you these are some of the most common statements I hear from clients signing up for my program:

  • “My life is insanely busy”

  • “I lack discipline”

  • “I have no motivation”

  • “I’ve been emotionally eating through (eh hem, this whole pandemic)”

  • “I have tried everything and nothing works”

  • “Menopause”

  • “My spouse’s habits don’t support my goals”

  • “None of my clothes fit anymore”

  • Unpack all of these statements just a little, and the underlying common thread is:

  • “I don’t have control.”

When we don’t have control over our health, it’s typically a symptom of not having control over many other facets of life. Maybe what you THINK you want is to lose some weight, but the truth is, what you NEED is...control! Good news! Movement and a healthy eating regimen can be two of the most impactful steps in regaining control in ALL aspects of your life.

After all, HEALTH = BODY & MIND. When you don’t feel good in one, you’ll typically not feel good in the other and vise versa. When you are taking charge of your body, you will see results that impact your mind.

Question for you. Do YOU feel in control?

As a fitness coach, nearly never (ok, actually never) have I had to tell someone that the way to better health is this magic equation of a balanced diet and exercise. I mean, we pretty much all know this right? But for whatever reason, we sometimes forget that

Optimal health must be intentional.

Like a game of football - you’re either on defense, with nothing in hand, simply trying to keep life from knocking you down OR you are on the offense holding the ball and on a mission. Certainly, living on the offense is the way to go! Take control of your health and you will see other wild parts of your life find order.

Stop waiting for a breakthrough or for motivation to come hit you. It won't happen by waiting. Why? Because...

ACTION CREATES MOTIVATION!


Here are five ACTION STEPS in regaining control of your health (and your life):

Get the PLAN: This will look differently for everybody. The key: MAKE THE DECISION. Decide that NOW you are taking the driver's seat, and YOU are in control of where you are going.

Find a GUIDE: Maybe it’s a coach, maybe a book (these books have helped me in my fitness journey) or even a program (peloton, noom, etc) . A guide will save you from paralysis of analysis, it will give you focus, and will break down a big goal into manageable and actionable daily steps.

Gather the GROUP: Find a way to surround yourself with like minded individuals on a similar mission! Running groups, group fitness classes, Private FB groups, support groups.

Know the DESTINATION: You need a destination postcard. Where are you going? How will you KNOW when you have arrived? I used to go to the gym with zero purpose except to burn some calories. Guess what - it got me nowhere. I had no purpose, no clear destination.

TREAT YOURSELF LIKE VIP: Prepare the coffee pot & lay out your workout clothes, block off time in the calendar, do something you LOVE, let other tasks go, do grocery delivery, spoil yourself with available healthy foods. Take care of your needs as if you are a VIP because guess what… YOU ARE A VERY IMPORTANT PERSON.

There you go. It’s all laid out for you. Do these things and I GUARANTEE you will feel a new sense of control you did not have before.
